Ms. Sarah Samson has been employed as the new library director at
the Lake Travis Community Library. The Lake Travis Community Library
District Board of Trustees is overjoyed to have this experienced
individual join our organization.
Ms. Samson graduated from Macalester College with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English. She attained her Masters of Library and
Information Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
While a student at UT-Austin, she was elected president of the UT
student chapter of the American Library Association.
For many years, Ms. Samson has worked in public libraries. Early in
her career she was a Library Assistant in the Lincoln City
Libraries, Lincoln, Nebraska. Her various tasks included dealing
with reference queries, cataloging, and even driving the bookmobile!
In Texas, Ms. Samson has been employed as an Interlibrary Loan
Assistant at the Austin Public Library, in Reference and Adult
Services at the Georgetown Public Library, and more recently as
Public Services Manager and Adult Programming director at the Round
Rock Public Library. At the Round Rock Public Library, she founded
the Round Rock Reads Program in 2007, wrote grants, and conducted
the teen summer reading program in 2006.
Her experience has been expanded to include working as a Legislative
Correspondent for United States Senator Jim Exon for two years in
Washington D.C. Also in 1994, she authored a weekly column in the
Williamson County Sun entitled, “Baffle the Bookworm.”
One of the exceptional honors bestowed on Ms. Samson was the
opportunity to become a Texas Library Association Tall Texan. She
was appointed to attend an extensive summer leadership program,
which she did in 2007. At the present time, Ms. Samson has been
asked to serve on the committee planning the program for the Texas
Library Association’s 2009 conference in Houston, Texas.
The LTCLD Board, employees of the LTCL, and the Friends of the LTCL
look forward to working with this accomplished lady.
