Sara Hickman to perform at TexARTS on Thursday, August 12 at 2pm

Join the Lake Travis Community Library for their Summer Reading Program Finale on Thursday, August 12 at 2pm at TexARTS.  The Official State Musician of Texas Sara Hickman will perform with the Family Time Rocks band.  Hickman is a pop children’s singer/songwriter based in Austin and she has released more than 15 albums.  The Texas Commission on the Arts appointed Hickman the 2010 State Musician of Texas for the exceptional quality of her work and for her outstanding commitment to the arts in Texas.  Don't miss the fun!

 


Mimi's Café Fundraiser, Thursday, August 12 from 4-9pm

Do you like muffins?  Eat at Mimi’s Café on Thursday, August 12th from 4-9pm to help raise money for the new library!  Present this flyer (also available at the library) to your server and Mimi’s will donate 15% from each sale the capital campaign.  Mimi’s Café is located in the Hill Country Galleria.  Bon Appétit!

 

 

 


Reading Logs Available

Children, teens, and adults are invited to participate in the Lake Travis Community Library Summer Reading Program!  Children can record the number of minutes or titles read, then come by the library for a sticker and treat every five lines.  Turn logs in by Friday, August 6 to be awarded a certificate and prizes.  Teens and adults can participate, too!  Fill out a Genre Bingo Card and read books in a number of different genres, then turn in cards by Friday, August 6 to win rewards such as gift certificates, free meals, and more.  Everyone in the family can join in the fun this summer!

 


Need Help with Required Summer Reading?

Attend a study group at Lake Travis Community Library!  LTCL will hold four discussion groups over the summer to help incoming 9th and 10th graders at Lake Travis High School.  Get a head start and attend a study group:

  • Sunday, June 11 at 2pm - Participate in a discussion group of the book Of Mice and Men for Pre-AP English 9th graders.

  • Sunday, July 25 at 2pm - Join a discussion/study group for Pre-AP English 10th graders.

  • Sunday, August 8 at 2pm - Participate in a discussion group about Pearl Buck's The Good Earth for Pre-AP English 9th graders.

  • Sunday, August 8 at 4pm - The library will host a study group for Pre-AP World Geography 9th graders to discuss Seven Years in Tibet

StoryBlocks Rhymes and Fingerplays

 

Learn new rhymes and fingerplays to practice with your little one!  Visit StoryBlocks!  This new website sponsored by Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy and PBS provides dozens of short one minute videos that model songs, rhymes, and fingerplays appropriate for early childhood.  Each video clip includes helpful early literacy tips to increase caregivers’ understanding of child development and pre-literacy needs.  Check it out!

 


Résumé Maker Available for Job Seekers

Lake Travis Community Library has recently added free access to Résumé Maker computer software to the list of patron services.  This web-based program provides tools, advice, and sample material for job-seekers.  Résumé Maker allows individual users to build resumes and cover letters from scratch, or to upload existing resumes for editing. The website also includes virtual interviews and sample interview questions, information about salaries, and resources for job searching.  Visit http://SCLC.resumemaker.com to get started today!

 


Memoir Writing Group Webpage

The Memoir Writing Group has a new webpage!  It includes writing prompts, news, a story of the month, blogs, and other helpful links for writers.  The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at the library at 7pm.  All are welcome!

 

The "Texas in Focus: Central Texas Report" is available at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts website.  This report is an in-depth look at trends and issues affecting the 20 counties in the Central Texas region.

Online Book Clubs
Join our Online Book Club and learn what we are reading online. Each day you are emailed a five minute portion of a book.  During the week, you can read two or three chapters and then decide if you want to check the book out of the library.  Every Monday we begin a new book.



Book News
Every month we offer monthly e-newsletters about books on a variety of topics.  Sign up to join our new e-newsletter and every month you will receive an e-mail copy or you can read them online.
